In the 1920s, the pharmacist of the small Harz town of Schierke, Willy Drube, regularly had to relieve the digestive problems of spa guests after overly fatty meals. Instead of simply administering stomach powders, the pharmacist had a simple yet ingenious idea: He didn't treat the symptoms, but rather addressed the causes with a herbal semi-bitter he made himself.   Schierker flint   was invented!

(Today, of course, it is well known that alcoholic beverages are unhealthy and may no longer be advertised as beneficial to health and/or digestion.)

In 1924, Willy Drube was able to   Herbal Semi-Bitter   He acquired a patent, thus taking an important step in the history of Schierker Feuerstein. In his pharmacy "Zum Roten Fingerhut" at the foot of the Brocken, the inventive pharmacist soon sold ever-increasing quantities of the delicious beverage.

The reddish color of the granite gave the flint cliffs in Schierke their name. This 300-million-year-old rock formation, in turn, inspired the name of the herbal semi-bitter, which sparkles in its characteristic dark red color in the light.
